Network HOST Questionnaire
(Reference RFC tl106; NIC Note 5776) ,
Attached is a summary of the responses to the referenced questionnaire.
The questions involving terminal support were of interest to m~bers
of the User/Service Site Protocol Committee in its considerations of TELNET.
The summary points out some of the key differences between line-at
a-time and , char-ac ter-sat-ea-it Lme (or both) in handling terminal support , ." ,
especially with respect to control characters. ' , The Lnfo rma tIon may prove
useful as background. information to TELNET implementers. -' . ," :.-'.
If errors of interpretation of .any sites' answer have occurred,- .p1ease
advise me at the following address so that I may update the chart. '

§1A Summary of Host Responses
T. O'Sullivan of Raytheon Data Systems introduces a summary of responses to the host questionnaire referenced as RFC 106 and NIC Note 5776. The attached chart contains the questionnaire responses.
The author says questions about terminal support were of interest to members of the User/Service Site Protocol Committee as they considered TELNET.
The note presents answers to a questionnaire about network hosts. The answers were gathered for people considering TELNET.
§2Different Ways to Handle Terminals
The note highlights differences between line-at-a-time and character-at-a-time terminal handling, including sites that support both. It says the differences matter especially for control characters.
The chart is an attachment to the note; the text describes its purpose rather than reproducing the chart's entries.
Some hosts handle input one line at a time, while others handle each character as it arrives. The summary calls attention to those differences.
§3Corrections to the Summary
The author says the information may be useful as background for TELNET implementers. He asks anyone who finds an error in the interpretation of a site's answer to advise him so the chart can be updated.
The chart is background material, and readers are asked to report any misinterpretation of a site's response.
