A Draft Set of Host Names Richard W. Watson
SRI-ARC
The enclosed list of host names is a draft. The hosts with an *
next to them indicated that this is the name they desired. The
others are names assigned. If I do not hear from representatives
at the hosts to change or correct the names in this list by
December 3, I will publish a list which we all can consider
official.

§1A Draft Host List
Richard W. Watson says the enclosed list of host names is a draft. Names marked with an asterisk are the names desired by those hosts; the others are assigned names.
If host representatives do not send changes or corrections by December 3, the author will publish a list that everyone can consider official.
The names in this list are still open to correction. Hosts can request changes before the stated deadline.
§2Names, Nicknames and Addresses
The table has columns for formal name, nickname and network address. Examples include SRI-ARC with the nickname NIC and address 2, UCLA-CCN with the nickname CCN and address 65, and BBN-NCC with the nickname NCC and address 5.
Some entries do not show a nickname or address. The RFC presents the data as a draft, so it does not establish that every value is final.
Each row can identify a host by its full name, a shorter nickname and a network number. An asterisk shows the name the host requested.
§3The List's Status
This is a draft set of names, not a final directory. The author plans to publish an official list after the requested correction period if representatives do not submit changes.
The unit metadata lists RFC 280 as Unknown and records no updates or replacements.
The list is provisional, and the RFC describes a plan to finalize it after review. Its metadata lists status as Unknown.
