                         NEW INTERFACE-IMP/360

The former interface to the network for our 360-75 was replaced
by a production unit similar to the NASA- AMES and USC versions. This
controller went into operation 1 May 1972.

We would be pleased to hear of any difficulties network users
encounter, while operating with UCSB, that might be related to this
unit.

     Thank you.

§1The New IMP Interface

The UCSB 360-75's former interface to the network was replaced by a production unit similar to the units at NASA-Ames and USC. The replacement controller went into operation on May 1, 1972.

UCSB installed a production replacement for the unit connecting its 360-75 to the network. It began operating on May 1.

§2Reporting Problems

Roland Bryan and the UCSB Computer Research Lab asked network users to report difficulties they encountered while communicating with UCSB if those problems might be related to the replacement interface.

The notice does not describe a specific fault or claim a measured improvement.

Users were asked to tell UCSB about connection problems that might involve the new interface. The notice does not say that a particular problem had occurred.

§3A Brief Change Notice

This RFC is a short operational announcement. It identifies the replacement equipment as a production unit and gives the date it began operating, without describing its detailed design.

The note records a hardware change and invites reports from users. It does not provide technical details about how the interface works.
