§1Information for TIP Users
David H. Crocker circulated a form to gather information about ARPANET TIPs. The stated purpose was to provide additional information to TIP users so they could use the network more flexibly and easily.
Sites were asked to return the completed form to Crocker, preferably as a NIC Journal entry.
The form was meant to help TIP users understand what each site offered and how to connect. Sites were asked to send their information back for collection.
§2Site and Operator Details
The form requests the organization's name and pseudo-host number, the regular host computers associated with it, and its mailing address. It asks for the person responsible for TIP operations, alternate contacts and operator coverage details.
Each site was asked to identify its TIP, related host computers and the people responsible for operating or supporting it.
§3Features, Downtime and Ports
Sites were asked to list TIP options such as magnetic tape, printers and card readers, along with other special features and scheduled downtime. The form also requests port numbers and the terminal type or dial-up telephone number associated with each port.
The form asks what features the TIP has, when it is unavailable, and which terminals or phone numbers connect through its ports.
