SWITCH SETTINGS ON IMPS AND TIPS
                    --------------------------------

This note provides a description of the switches on the front panel of
IMPs and TIPs that are important to the correct operation of the
network software. We have had some difficulty in the past when
certain of these switches were set incorrectly, This RFC will be
updated as necessary, to notify site personnel of changes to the
settings.

A. 516 IMPs
    --------
The IMP at your site is a model 516 if it has a gray cabinet and two
rows of indicator lights on the front panel. The correct switch
settings are:

     1. Sense switches 1,2,3 and 4: OFF (DOWN)
     2. PFI/PFH: PFI (UP)
     3. HALT INH: OFF (DOWN)
     4. W.D.T.: OFF (DOWN)
     5. AUTO RSTRT: ON (UP)
     6. MEMORY PRTCT: OFF (DOWN)

B. 316 IMPs and TIPs
    -----------------
The IMP at your site is a model 316 if it is a TIP or if it is in a
black cabinet and has one row of indicator lights on the front panel.

     1. Sense switches 1,2,3,4 OFF (top half depressed)

Site personnel are requested to keep a copy of this RFC near the IMP
and to check the switch settings at their IMP. In addition, the
Honeywell field engineers who perform preventive maintenance have been
requested to use this note as a checklist.

PROBLEMIncorrect switch settings on network equipment had caused operational difficulties.
MECHANISMThe RFC lists the correct settings for Model 516 IMPs and Model 316 IMPs and TIPs.
PURPOSE OF THE LISTSites and field engineers are asked to keep the note near the equipment and use it as a checklist.

§1Why the Switch List Was Issued

The RFC says that incorrect front-panel switch settings on IMPs and TIPs had caused difficulties. It provides a checklist for site personnel and says the document would be updated if the settings changed.

Some equipment problems had been caused by switches set incorrectly. The note records the settings staff should check.

§2Settings for Model 516 IMPs

The RFC identifies a Model 516 by its gray cabinet and two rows of front-panel indicator lights. It lists settings for sense switches 1 through 4, PFI/PFH, HALT INH, W.D.T., AUTO RSTRT and MEMORY PRTCT. The listed settings are OFF for the sense switches, PFI, OFF for HALT INH and W.D.T., ON for AUTO RSTRT, and OFF for MEMORY PRTCT.

For a Model 516, the RFC gives a specific position for each listed switch. Staff can use the checklist to compare the front panel with those settings.

§3Settings for Model 316 IMPs and TIPs

The RFC identifies a Model 316 as a TIP or as an IMP in a black cabinet with one row of indicator lights. For these units, it lists sense switches 1 through 4 as OFF, with the top half depressed.

Site personnel are asked to keep a copy near the IMP, and Honeywell field engineers are asked to use it during preventive maintenance.

For Model 316 equipment, check that sense switches 1 through 4 are OFF. The note asks staff to keep the list near the equipment for maintenance.
