0-RTT (early data)

A TLS 1.3 mode in which a client sends application data in its first flight, using a PSK. It saves a round trip but the data can be replayed.

Plain language A TLS 1.3 mode sending application data in the first flight using a PSK.

Used in RFC 7413 RFC 8446 RFC 8470 RFC 9000 RFC 9001 RFC 9002 RFC 9114 RFC 9221 RFC 9250 RFC 9368 RFC 9369 RFC 9456 RFC 9622 RFC 9623 RFC 9846 RFC 9887 RFC 9916 RFC 9918

6LoWPAN

A family of techniques for running IPv6 over low-power wireless networks of constrained devices, with routers and nodes called 6LRs and 6LNs.

Plain language Lets low-power wireless devices use IPv6 addresses on constrained networks with limited battery and bandwidth.

Used in RFC 6574 RFC 6606 RFC 6775 RFC 7400 RFC 7428 RFC 7668 RFC 8025 RFC 8066 RFC 8105 RFC 8138 RFC 8180 RFC 8505 RFC 8929 RFC 8930 RFC 8931 RFC 9008 RFC 9010 RFC 9034 RFC 9139 RFC 9354 RFC 9428 RFC 9685 RFC 9914 RFC 9926

6rd

IPv6 Rapid Deployment: a mechanism for connecting IPv6 users across IPv4 networks using automatic 6-in-4 tunneling, with address compression to reduce routing overhead.

Plain language Sends IPv6 traffic through IPv4 networks by automatically encapsulating it, with address compression to reduce overhead.

Used in RFC 5569 RFC 6654 RFC 6930 RFC 7084

6to4

An interim IPv6 transition mechanism that connects IPv6 networks over the IPv4 Internet by automatic tunneling. The IPv4 tunnel endpoint address is embedded in the 2002::/16 address prefix.

Plain language Routes IPv6 traffic over IPv4 networks by embedding the tunnel endpoint address in the IPv6 address.

Used in RFC 3068 RFC 3964 RFC 4852 RFC 5158 RFC 5569 RFC 5969 RFC 6732
