PROBLEMARPA Network users needed to know which UCLA Campus Computing Network contact to approach for different issues.
MECHANISMThe RFC lists contacts for initial user relations, ARPA liaison, network technical matters, operations, and consulting.
HISTORICAL CONTEXTRFC 389 is an administrative contact directory and was obsoleted by RFC 423.

§1Initial Contact and Administrative Matters

The RFC says users should make initial contact with UCLA CCN through its listed representatives. Fred Ebrahimi, in User Relations, is the initial contact and handles charge-number applications, funding, and discussion of CCN facilities and services.

Barbara Noble is listed as the ARPA liaison in User Services.

For initial contact, the memo points users to Fred Ebrahimi. He handles administrative questions and explains CCN facilities and services.

§2Technical, User, and Operations Support

Robert Braden is the Network Technical Liaison and handles network protocol and hardware problems. Barbara Noble is the focal point for programming problems, documentation, and other issues related to using CCN; users can also call the consulting desk or Bob Bell in User Services.

For schedules and special handling, the memo lists the Operations desk and William Tippit, the Operations Manager. Phone numbers are provided for each contact or service desk.

Contact Robert Braden about network protocols or hardware. Barbara Noble and the consulting desk handle use and programming issues; the Operations desk handles schedules and special requests.

§3Purpose of the Directory

RFC 389 is a contact guide for users of UCLA's Campus Computing Network. It lists six contact roles or service points and tells users whom to approach first.

The unit metadata records RFC 423 as the RFC that later obsoleted this directory.

This memo is a routing guide for support questions, not a protocol specification. A later contact list replaced it.
